This is the Rafflesia blossom we saw at Guning Gading National Park. It was about a yard in diameter, as you can tell by comparing the size of Sara's sneaker. This is the world's largest flower. There are several varieties, and this is "Tuan Mudae." Each blossom takes about nine months to appear, and then lasts only four to seven days. When we learned about their ecological niche and their method of propagation, we were amazed at their ability to survive as a species.
